Northern Powerhouse: The northern construction projects to keep an eye on

Manchester may be regarded as England’s second city, but it isn’t the only powerhouse in the North. Exciting new developments have been taking place in Manchester, Leeds and Liverpool in recent years. Only time will tell if these ever-changing northern city skylines will eventually surpass the iconic one of London. Here we take you on a tour of the northern construction projects to keep an eye on.

 

Trinity Islands, Manchester

Trinity Islands is set to be the tallest residential building in the northwest, dwarfing the famed Beetham Tower by a huge 20 storeys. Trinity Islands is going to be part of a new neighbourhood called St. Johns in Manchester, worth £1.35bn.

 

First Street South, Manchester

Next door to arts venue HOME, First Street South is the newest addition to the renovation of First Street. Consisting of 600 high-end apartments, First Street South will also be home to rooftop gardens, a gym, 85 parking spaces, and a cycle space for every resident.

 

City College Campus, Leeds

Costing £57m, the new Leeds City College Campus will help transform the offering across courses such as Creative Arts and Health Sciences. Due for completion in June 2019, the campus will be decked out with full state-of-the-art facilities.


St. George’s Crypt Flats, Leeds

St. George’s Crypt are a charity that are renowned for their work for the homeless, and this new Hyde Park block of flats takes its mission even further. This block of 14 flats will be reserved solely for homeless people, making it a unique Leeds construction project. St George’s Crypt Flats are due for completion in Summer 2019.

 

Wolstenholme Square Redevelopment, Liverpool

City developer Elliot is extending the Wolstenholme Square development with an 11-storey tower. The new block is set to include 200 apartments, two commercial units on the ground floor, and a gym with a plunge pool.

 

ECHO Building Renovation, Liverpool

The Liverpool ECHO is moving across the road to new offices in St. Paul’s Square. Once the building is empty, it will be converted to a Innside by Meliá hotel. The hotel will include a rooftop sky bar for beautiful views across the city.
